QI is just fantastic

  • Alan Davies: Is there any evidence that people are a bit more bonkers when there’s a full moon?
  • Stephen Fry: No. It’s very interesting. There’s been a lot of research about it, and there have been a lot of anecdotal evidence that at loony bins, you have to lock them up on a full moon, but actually, there’s absolutely no clear evidence whatsoever that people behave oddly on a full moon. That is just nonsense.
  • Sean Lock: Then why do I go out killing?

CT and MRI of a red-eared slider (Trachemys scripta elegans)
“CT (a, b, d, f, g) and MRI (c, e) in red-eared slider (Trachemys scripta). CT and MRI have different capacities in visualising vasculature (d, e), soft tissue (c, f) and skeleton (a, g). (b, c): Both of the scanning modalities produce thin cross sectional images of the red-eared slider under study. (a, d, e, f, g): Further processing of the thin cross sectional images leads to a three dimensional digital model of the animal by the aid of volume rendering software”

Kids Today vs. Kids in 1982
An interesting infographic (this is an excerpt, full version is here) for many reasons, including smoking, safe sex and graduation rate stats. But pay special attention to that “career aspirations” section there.
We’ve got some work to do yet, science fans. The importance of STEM jobs in our economy is only growing. We can’t let a generation slip away.
